What Is Green Beauty? And Why Is It Important?
Green beauty – Ever heard of this term before? If not, let us help you understand what green beauty is. The secret to saving our reefs and oceans, forests and trees, animals and creatures, is to do so with actions, not words. And believe it or not, the skincare, hair care, and beauty products you use can also contribute largely to it. It’s no surprise that our planet is in a dire state and as environmental challenges mount, eco-consciousness is exploding among concerned citizens to protect our little corner of the universe. While beauty brands are taking a note of the situation and you can make a change by taking some small or big actions, some actions don’t rest with you, but with beauty companies and they are taking notice. Read on to learn more about green beauty and how you can be the change!
What is green beauty?
The term green beauty refers to the beauty products that are sourced, produced, and packaged ethically and sustainably, that's kind to the planet. The term ethical means to use natural, non-toxic ingredients and the absence of animal ingredients or animal by-products in our beauty products. For example, using sulphate free shampoos and silicone-free shampoos.
Why should you go green?
Now, why does that matter? Raising and processing animals takes a huge toll on the environment. Well, it’s not only the animals that benefit from being left out of the equation but using plant-based ingredients is better for the planet, too. Harsh chemicals such as sulphates in shampoos, conditioners or any other beauty products deplete water, natural resources, and habitats and generate more greenhouse gas emissions than almost any other sector. Moreover, it's not great for the environment to process the harmful chemicals that show up in some beauty products. Hence, it is best to use a non-sulphate shampoo, sulphate free conditioner and more.
